DWA is on the WAY

The District Writing Assessment is set to take place the week of February 20th.  This test is an argumentative essay which is slightly different than a persuasive essay that students have written in the past.  Students must present a balanced, logical argument which presents strongest reasons and refutes the strongest counter-arguements.  Currently, we are working on a class essay related to abolishing the penny.  Students know that they will need to read a few source materials on Day 1 of the DWA, decide on their stances, create a pro/con chart and begin organizing the outline of their essays.  On Day 2, students will have 55 minutes to write and revise their essays.  The DWA is used to place students in classes next year, and it is one of the key measures in placing Honors students.  Please contact me if you have any questions regarding the preparation for the upcoming exam.

    This was a very helpful video. Especially the part at the end when the tips came up. I understand the concept of an argumentative essay a little more now.

    This video was a very fun way to explain the basics of an argumentative essay. The purpose of the essay is to make the reader see from your point of view.

    I found this video to be very helpful and easy to understand. It helped me better understand the basics of an argumentative essay. I especially liked the list of facts at the very end.

    I really liked this video because it gave me a new and interesting way of thinking about argumentative writing. It gave many good examples of what an argumentative essay is and how to organize it.

    I enjoyed this video and thought that it was a cool, simple video yet gave a lot of helpful suggestions and information. One part that really stuck with me is that your tone should always stay civil and polite! <3

    One thing that I have learned from this video is that the purpose of an argumentative essay is to persuade your reader to make a change.

    I learned the goal of an argumentative essay is to get someone to make a change, and rather than yelling, you should use facts to get a point across. I also liked how the points were summarized at the end
